This digital download of Dao Flow Yoga for Women’s Health consists of four practices, each about an hour in length. Each practice consists of a series of poses and breath work oriented toward a specific phase of your four-part monthly cycle. The practices pull from the principles of Yin and Yang which are correlated to the monthly cycling of the moon as well as the female monthly cycle.
1. Menstrual: This practice focuses on the uterus, the womb. While it’s often suggested to take time off from practice, or to simply relax the pelvic floor, during this phase, for fertility enhancement, we use the outward energetic of menstruation to liberate the Blood and evacuate it from the uterus. This clear elimination of blood allows the proper gathering of yin blood in the next phase, the follicular phase. This set has a slower pace and includes many seated postures.
2. Follicular: In this practice, the womb is vitalized by channeling energy down into it, activating the pituitary glands, and circulating yin energy throughout the body and reproductive system.
3. Ovulatory: This phase of your monthly cycle is all about shifting from yin gathering to yang movement. Moving the body from its maximum yin states requires strong method. For this reason, the ovulatory sequence is the strongest practice, activating the most warmth and movement. This practice helps to finalize the ripening process of the follicle and to facilitate all of the energy and movement required to successfully release the egg, have it caught by the fallopian tube, meet the sperm, merge together, and to finally traverse the fallopian tube.
4. Luteal: The Luteal phase is the second of two yang phases. We initiated the transition from yin to yang with the strong ovulatory set. Now, the yang energy is in full force and our focus is to keep it going – stoking the fire and lifting the energy helps to keep body temperatures high. This practice is still active and vitalizing but it steps down a bit from the ovulatory set, as we just need to fan the yang flames, not light them from scratch. The Dao Flow Yoga practice focuses on resetting and optimizing hormonal balance by connecting us to our natural rhythms and stimulating blood flow in the tissues of the pelvic bowl. With regular practice, the entire menstrual cycle is elevated at any stage of the reproductive arc.
